There’s big news for soccer players in the Pine Belt and neighboring areas! With the upcoming inaugural season of minor league soccer in Hattiesburg, the Southern States Soccer Club is holding open try-outs for the team next month.

If you grew up playing the sport, and you once had dreams of going pro, now is your chance to see if you have what it takes. The soccer club recently revealed the name of the new minor league team as the Southern States Stars, a.k.a. the Stars.
There will be two sessions for the open try-outs on Saturday, Dec. 9, with the first one at 10 a.m. and the second at 2 p.m. The cost to try out is $50. Interested soccer players are encouraged to sign-up now to reserve a spot.
The website asked for minor league hopefuls to send their playing bios and contact details to [email protected] or call (601) 602-6998 for more information. Those who advance will go onto additional try outs in January. The season is schedule to start in May 2021.

Minor league soccer in Hattiesburg isn’t the only big news for soccer lovers in town. For those who love to kick and run and pass and score, and if you are between the ages of 4 and 19, winter registration is now open. The season is from Jan. 12, 2021, through March 13, 2021.

The Southern States Soccer Club was established well before the idea of having minor league soccer in Hattiesburg came to fruition. Created in 2015, the soccer club continues to grow and expand. The addition of the minor league team saw the development of amazing new state-of-the-art facilities.
According to an article published on The Pine Belt News, Director of Soccer Operations Nigel Boulton said one of the main goals of the Stars is to create a “fan experience that is a partnership” by bringing the fans and families “up close to the players and field.” He hopes that young people will be inspired by the close-up action and chase soccer dreams of their own.
